Manchester United have been blessed with some brilliant goalkeepers over the last 35 years, with Peter Schmeichel and David de Gea both enjoying incredible careers at United.
However, to many, the man who played either side of them, Edwin van der Sar, was the best of the lot.
The legendary Dutch stopper joined United from Fulham in 2005 for just £2 million, ending a six-year hunt for a suitable replacement for Schmeichel, and quickly helped usher in a new period of dominance for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
He made 266 appearances over the following six seasons, winning 10 trophies and famously going a record 14 games without conceding a league goal in the 2008/09 season.
As well as that, he provided the calm and composed presence any defence needs behind them, and ball playing skills that were ahead of their time.
While his Premier League exploits were heroic, he is best remembered for his penalty save from Nicolas Anelka that clinched United's third European Cup/Champions League crown in 2008.
It was his second time lifting the famous trophy, which came 13 years apart, showing the enduring brilliance that saw him play at the highest level until the age of 40.
How Ruben Amorim could do with a keeper like van der Sar!
