Orlando Pirates claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for their third Betway Premiership win of the 2025/26 campaign.
The Soweto giants capitalized on the home team’s defensive errors as playmaker and fan favorite Patrick Maswanganyi opened the scoring in the 8th minute after a failed attempt to play out from the back by the Chilli Boys.
Pirates kept knocking on the door for the second goal until Oswin Appollis set-up Namibian international Deon Hotto, whose shot beat Stanley Nwabali in the Chippa goal for a two-goal cushion at the half time break.
In the second stanza, Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men picked up from where they left off as second half substitute Tshepang Moremi pounced on a well-worked pass from Appollis to round up the scoring three minutes after entering the fray.
The Sea Robbers will however be sweating over the fitness of Maswanganyi, who was stretchered off in the second half. It remains unclear whether the Bafana Bafana international’s injury is serious or minor at this stage.
Meanwhile, Pirates have now made it three wins in a row and moved up to fifth place with nine points accumulated in the Betway Premiership. Ouaddou’s side appears to have put the back-to-back defeats in the first two outings behind them.
For the Chilli Boys, the defeat saw them extend their losing streak to four games and they are yet to win a match in the ongoing campaign as they drew with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on the opening weekend.
The Gqeberha-based outfit, having parted ways with Sinethemba Badela after two games following a reported disagreement with Sporting Director Sinesipho Mali, are at the bottom of the log standings. Chippa recently appointed Luc Eymael, whose first game in the dugout was the defeat to Pirates.
