Matías Almeyda is finally set to start bringing in some of his former Chivas players into the San Jose Earthquakes camp.
According to Univision, Mexico international centre-back Oswaldo Alanís is in California to undergo a medical and that the player should officially be announced soon.
Alanís has not featured at all for Chivas this season and has not been included in any of Luis Fernando Tena’s Liga MX matchday squads as 20-year-old Gilberto Sepúlveda has emerged as their everyday starter.
“”It is difficult (to be left out of the squad). No player likes it and I want to play. I am looking to play. I need to be playing football. That’s the most important thing.
“I want things to go well and add value where I can.”
Alanís, who re-joined Chivas last summer after a failed month-long stint at Getafe and one season at Spanish second-division side Real Oviedo, played under Almeyda for all three years of his reign.
Together, they won a total of five trophies: the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League title, the 2017 Apertura Liga MX trophy, a pair of Copa MX crowns, and the 2016 Supercopa MX.
Alanís had been linked with a move to defending champions Rayados, however, the move would have required the 30-year-old to take a significant pay cut.
During the 2019 Apertura campaign, Alanís featured in 10 of Chivas’ 17 Liga MX contests, scoring twice.
