The statement came as a major surprise, amid what has been a productive 2024/25 campaign on the part of Osasuna to date.

Los Rojillos currently sit just two points off the European places in La Liga, still in with a shot at securing a place in the UEFA Conference League for next season.

The club’s next outing will take place on Thursday evening, when Osasuna play host to Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid.

As is customary, manager Vicente Moreno therefore took his place in front of the media in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

And it was during as much that the Spaniard announced his plans to move on upon the expiration of his contract at El Sadar in the summer.

In quotes relaid by Mundo Deportivo, Moreno explained:

“I can tell you that these will be my last two matches as Osasuna’s manager at El Sadar. Personally, I would love, for my part, to take the team to Europe. It would be the icing on the cake.

“I’m sharing it now because it’s what I feel. I think it’s time. It’s something I’ve been working on, and I think it’s time to tell it to the many people who have been very good to me throughout the year.”
