Team captain Marta, who has led the team since arriving at the club in 2017, scored the first goal of the historical evening in the 56’ from the penalty spot. The Brazilian legend burried the ball in the back of the net, leading to her winning her first NWSL trophy.

Knowing what was on the line, Orlando extended its lead in the 73’ when Brazilian forward Adriana stole the ball just outside the Washington Spirit’s box, sending a right leg shot that was deflected by Tara McKeown to force an own goal that sealed the Shield for the Pride.

Orlando Pride reached this milestone like no other team before, with an unbeaten streak in 24 regular season matches, and a record of 17W-6D-0L with three games remaining in the season.

Despite clinching the top seed for the 2024 NWSL Playoffs, Orlando Pride have the possibility to extended their unbeaten record before the start of the postseason. The club will face the Portland Thorns on October 11, current NWSL champions NJ/NY Gotham FC on October 20, and the Seattle Reign on November 2 to close the regular season.

With one trophy in hand, Orlando Pride will attempt to complete the double by seeking its first NWSL Championship.
