Chivas striker Oribe Peralta made a heartfelt call for “respect and union” in the wake of his side’s 1-0 loss to América in Saturday’s Clásico Nacional.

The 36-year-old, who spent five years with Las Águilas before his controversial move to the Flock in 2019, spent time talking to some América players after the game at the Estadio Azteca.

Hours later, the 2012 Olympic Gold Medal winner took to Twitter to express his thoughts.

“Every gentleman knows that the sports duel ends when the referee whistles,” he posted.

“Soccer is a gentleman’s sport. Every gentleman knows that the sporting duel ends when the referee whistles and he must not cross that border.

“Like the fans, I wish the result were different, however, the best way to overcome it and for the team to be prepared for the challenges ahead is to accept the reality of the result.

“As well as the fans, I defend Chivas with all the honor and greatness, for what it represents and for the great love that I have for football, and with that same honor and love, I represent its values before professional colleagues and friends of lifetime.

“Especially in a context of social distancing like the one we live in. Let’s promote respect and union.”

Peralta also posted a photo from a previous Clásico clash when he was on the other side of the divide, along with the words: “November 2016. Friendship and camaraderie, always accompanied by professionalism.”

The defeat, which was the fourth of the season for Los Rojiblancos, leaves Chivas in seventh place in the Guard1anes 2020 table.
