Despite winning the Supercoppa Italiana, AC Milan cannot afford to be carried away and work must continue as the Rossoneri look to rise again.
A trophy is a trophy, and after such a drought, the reaction is understandable. However, focus cannot drop with Milan still having a bigger task on their hands with half of the season still remaining.
In Serie A, hopes of Europe looked bleak, but with a new coach and new ideas, there could be life in the Diavolo’s chances yet. But it will be dependent on Sergio Conceicao’s ability to motivate his squad, and from the Supercoppa, it seems he will have no issues.
Of course, though, there is a slight difference between Inter and Juventus in the Supercoppa and Cagliari in Serie A. That is exactly the issue, though. Every game will require the same level of attention and motivation, which has often not been seen this season.
As Franco Ordine states, the Rossoneri cannot afford to drop points after the Saudi Arabia success, and he has taken stock of things for Milan News.
“Sergio Conceicao also needs to get to work immediately to be told by those who have already experienced Cagliari after a great feat [Real Madrid]. That time the team behaved, with Fonseca sounding the alarm early, in a very questionable manner.
“Starting with Theo himself, who allowed his opposite number the freedom to make and unmake the result was largely in favour of the Rossoneri [two goals from Leao and one from Abraham]. This time Milan can no longer afford it.
“Another recommendation: because of the challenges every three days, it is a case of creating a virtuous and rational rotation. Everyone is needed. And in particular, those who, like Loftus Cheek, for example, have never been seen or heard of this season.”
