Following Nathan Jones’ departure to Southampton, Luton Town are now under the stewardship of Rob Edwards.

The 39-year-old will be hoping to continue the success that the Hatters saw during Jones’ tenure, all whilst implementing new ideas to keep things fresh at Kenilworth Road.

Edwards, who guided Forest Green Rovers to the League Two title last time out, had a brief spell at rivals Watford, however, he was not afforded enough time to build something at Vicarage Road.

Now, the Luton boss will be assessing his current squad and looking to implement his ideas at Kenilworth Road, all whilst keeping an eye on the January transfer window.

Prior to Jones’ departure and Edwards’ arrival, Michael Hector had been training with the Bedfordshire club, with the managerial search of course taking precedence.

It has left Luton fans unsure on what the latest is regarding the experienced defender and whether or not he is still training with the club.

Luton Town have won one FA Cup.

True False

Despite the managerial change and the fact that Edwards will be wanting to make a few changes to how the Hatters operate, Hector is still someone that the Hatters should look to sign.

The expectation is that Luton will become a little less direct and that Edwards will implement a more possession-based style of football.

This is something that would suit Hector as he has proven to be a composed and progressive defender, both in his passing and carrying of the ball.

With Reece Burke missing a significant part of this campaign and Kal Naismith departing in the summer, the Hatters have not played through the thirds as much as they did last season.

Hector would certainly help the Hatters retain the ball better and progress through the third with quick and meaningful passing sequences.

It remains to be seen if Hector is still training with the club, with a short-term contract likely to be a good option going forward.

Of course, financing a deal for the centre-back may be a stumbling block but they were able to take a punt on Robert Snodgrass for the second half of last season, as it remains to be seen if something similar can happen here.
