Swansea head coach Russell Martin had to withdraw Steven Benda in the second-half of this aforementioned fixture after the goalkeeper sustained a knee injury.

The extent of Benda’s issue has now been revealed.

In a statement on Swansea’s official website, it has been confirmed that Benda is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines and will see a specialist later this week for a further assessment of his injury.

A key member of the club’s squad, Benda has made 23 appearances for the club in all competitions this season and thus losing him at this stage of the term is a significant blow.

While Martin will be able to turn to Andy Fisher for inspiration, Swansea do not have another senior keeper at their disposal.

Keeping this in mind, it would be a major surprise if the club opt against signing a new shot-stopper before the transfer window closes.

One of the players who should now be on Swansea’s radar is Karl Darlow.

A report from the Daily Mail earlier this month revealed that Newcastle will consider offers for Darlow during the closing stages of the window.

Huddersfield Town were touted as a potential suitor for the keeper by this aforementioned website while Hull City are also believed to be keen on a move.

As per Hull Live, the Tigers are believed to be closing in on reaching an agreement to sign Darlow on a temporary basis from the Magpies.

Swansea ought to consider trying to hijack this deal by submitting a loan offer in the coming days as the 32-year-old would be a good addition to their squad.

During his career to date, Darlow has managed to claim a respectable total of 43 clean-sheets in the 140 games that he has participated in at this level.

The keeper unquestionably knows what it takes to succeed at this level as he featured regularly for Newcastle in the 2016/17 campaign which culminated in the club sealing promotion to the Premier League.

When you consider that Martin’s side are only three points adrift of the play-off places, there is every chance that Darlow could play a key role in the club’s push for a top-six finish if he makes the move to the Swansea.com Stadium.

Swansea could potentially convince Darlow to join if they offer him some assurance regarding game-time as the keeper will want to play regularly having acted as an understudy for Nick Pope this season.
