Arsenal’s transfer business this summer has drawn widespread praise, and rightly so. With a clear strategy and rapid execution, the club has addressed many of its long-standing weaknesses.
A strong defensive foundation is vital for any title-challenging side, and Arsenal wasted no time reinforcing it. Cristhian Mosquera’s arrival from Valencia adds depth and promise at centre-back. Meanwhile, the midfield has been completely revitalised. Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard provide a solid double pivot option, replacing Thomas Partey and Jorginho, who have already departed the club.
On the wings, Noni Madueke arrives as genuine support for Bukayo Saka, finally giving the Hale End star some much-needed rotation cover. Kepa Arrizabalaga brings quality and experience as a backup keeper, and the marquee signing, Viktor Gyökeres, fills the long-standing void up top with a powerful, natural striker who could be the missing piece in Arsenal’s title push.

The Gunners have also done well in trimming the squad. Nuno Tavares has found a new home at Lazio. Kieran Tierney, ever popular but injury-prone, has returned to Celtic. Jorginho’s exit was quietly managed, Tomiyasu’s contract was bought out, and the club has handled the Partey situation with minimal fallout. Misfires like Neto and Raheem Sterling have moved on, and the dressing room seems better balanced already.
Of course, no window is perfect. Can Gyökeres replicate his numbers in the Premier League? How will Ethan Nwaneri find his pathway with the first team now more congested? There remains a glut of left-backs, and senior players like Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira and Sambi Lokonga have uncertain futures.
Where Kai Havertz fits best is also a live question. He is good at many things, but arguably not great at any one role. Is there still space for Gabriel Jesus post-injury? And how will Mikel Merino slot into midfield when Rice, Zubimendi and Norgaard are all vying for similar zones?
Then there’s Max Dowman, arguably the breakout star of pre-season. Will Arteta find a way to integrate him in a squad already packed with expensive, senior talent? The boss said in May that Dowman would be a part of first team plans next season, after all.
These are good problems to have, and most Gooners will be excited that we’re asking them at the top end of the table again.
