Only PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is ahead of Inter Milan’s Yann Sommer in a key goalkeeping statistic.
As the Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the CIES Football Observatory has the Nerazzurri keeper second in the rankings for percentage of goals prevented compared to expected goals.
Inter Milan signed goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.
The Swiss veteran was the player who the Nerazzurri brought in to replace Andre Onana.
And that bet looks to have payed off.
Inter brought in a player who had already proven himself many times over in the form of Sommer.
And the 36-year-old has only continued to do so since his arrival at the San Siro.

Sommer has made plenty of key saves for Inter. He played his part in last season’s Serie A title win by the Nerazzurri.
Sommer’s impact has been evident in recent Serie A matches.
The 36-year-old made a string of vital saves against the likes of Udinese and Parma.
Then, Sommer also impressed against his former team Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
CIES Football Observatory calculate that Sommer has a +3.83% save percentage relative to expected goals between March of 2023 and 2024.
