Barcelona’s plans to strengthen their squad next summer with the potential addition of Jonathan Tah on a free transfer have led to uncertainty about the future of several key centre-backs.

According to AS, players such as Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, and Ronald Araujo may be at risk of leaving the club once Tah joins, as Barcelona’s sporting management is keen to bring in the experienced German defender.

It is said that Tah is highly regarded by Hansi Flick, who sees him as a reliable addition to the squad, and even the management is satisfied with this operation as no transfer fee is involved.

Only on remains

The possible arrival of Tah would likely mean that Barcelona will need to part ways with at least two of their current centre-backs.

Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez are expected to remain at the club, so the players most likely to be moved on are Christensen, Garcia, and Araujo.

For that matter, Christensen and Garcia, in particular, are seen as the most likely candidates to leave, as their future at Barcelona appears uncertain.

What about Araujo?

Araujo, who has now recovered from injury, is in a more complex situation. His contract is set to expire in 2026, and Barcelona have made it clear that he will be put up for sale if he does not renew his contract.

While Araujo is open to staying at Barcelona, he may have to accept the club’s financial offer, which might not meet his expectations.

His situation is a stark contrast to a few months ago when he was considering leaving the club.

Suitors for Christensen and Garcia

As for Christensen and Garcia, both players still have potential suitors. Christensen has struggled with injuries this season and is unlikely to feature much in the coming months.

On the other hand, Girona, have shown interest in bringing Garcia back to the club. He has played more minutes as a midfielder than as a centre-back this season, and with Araujo’s return, his opportunities to play as a defender will be limited.

Barcelona will likely look to sell both Christensen and Garcia, hoping to make a profit from their departures.
