And just like that, another Serie A season is over.

But how will we reflect on another epic campaign?

Player of the Season 👏

Domenico Berardi was at his unstoppable best for Sassuolo, showing no signs of being impacted by new coach Alessio Dionisi’s arrival.

After missing the first few games of the campaign through injury, he exploded into action upon his return in making up for lost time – finishing up with 15 goals and 14 assists in 33 appearances. Incredible numbers, with several other statistics (shot conversion, dribbles completed and fouls drawn) also backing up his undoubted quality.

It makes it all the more surprising that, now aged 27, he has stayed faithful to the Neroverdi and not tested himself elsewhere but after another stellar season, major suitors will surely come calling again.

Young Player of the Season 👶

Under the caveat that the player had to be aged 21 or under when the season began, it can only go to Dušan Vlahović for his phenomenal scoring exploits.

He ended the 2020/21 campaign strongly and kept it going into the new season with Fiorentina, where his 17 goals in 21 league games earned him a €70 million switch to Juventus.

In Turin, another nine goals in all competitions followed as the Serbian cemented his reputation as one of the game’s most fearsome No. 9’s.

Surprise of the Season 🤯

Let’s face it, outside of the most optimistic of Milan fans, few really gave them much of a chance at ending their long wait for the Scudetto.

Defending champions Inter strengthened well despite their summer losses, Juventus had serial winner Massimiliano Allegri back at the helm, Atalanta were tipped as potential dark horses and Napoli launched a big challenge of their own.

But it was the Rossoneri who shocked everyone as Stefano Pioli spearheaded them to a first title since 2011.

Coach of the Season 👔

Vincenzo Italiano took a Fiorentina side who struggled massively last season and guided them from 14th place back to European football (and improved their points tally by 22 in the process). All while playing some of the most refreshing and enjoyable football in the league.

But a special shout-out should also go to survival expert Davide Nicola who steered a team to safety from expected relegation for the fifth time in Serie A – taking a Salernitana side who were in the drop zone with just three wins all season and kept them up on the final day. How does he keep doing it?

Goal of the Season 😍

With apologies to Theo Hernández and Lorenzo Pellegrini (who seemed to be having his own personal Goal of the Season competition), we’re going for Ruslan Malinovskyi.

The Ukrainian is lethal from long distance and proved it against Juventus with this ferocious strike.

Game of the Season 🏟

While Roma 3-4 Juventus and Atalanta 4-4 Torino were classics in terms of plenty of goals and back-and-forth drama, they ultimately didn’t count for a great deal.

But Milan’s epic 2-1 derby comeback win over Inter in early February has to take the honours for both importance and brilliance.

In a must win game with Milan four points behind (and having played a game more prior to kick-off) the Rossoneri found themselves trailing 1-0 with 15 minutes to go, only for a late Olivier Giroud brace to turn around the derby – and the title race. Milan dropped only eight points afterwards.
