Many critics argued Pep Guardiola’s style of football wouldn’t work in England and after his first season at Manchester City, it looked like they might have been onto something.

But after strengthening his squad with some key additions in the summer of 2017, Guardiola’s side silenced their detractors by romping to the Premier League title with an unprecedented 100 points.

They set numerous other Premier League records in 2017/18 too, such as most wins (32), most goals (106) and most consecutive victories (18).

The 19 points they finished ahead of rivals Manchester United in the title race is also a record.

Winning back-to-back Premier League titles has become no mean feat in recent years but City managed it again in 2018/19, and it was no mean feat.

They were without Kevin De Bruyne – their best player – for most of the season due to injury and they had a brilliant Liverpool team breathing down their necks throughout.

But they won the title on the final day of the season with 98 points – the second highest total in Premier League history.

And if that weren’t enough, they became the first ever team to complete a clean sweep of English domestic trophies (Community Shield, Premier League title, League Cup and FA Cup) with a 6-0 hammering of Watford in the FA Cup final.

De Bruyne has blossomed into the most complete midfielder in the world under Guardiola, while Sergio Agüero and Raheem Sterling have been responsible for a large portion of City’s goals.

But we shouldn’t forget the contributions made by likes of Ederson, Aymeric Laporte, Kyle Walker, Fernandinho, David Silva and Bernardo Silva either.

Guardiola’s City have played some amazing, breathtaking football since 2017 and at the time of writing, they are statistically still the best team in Premier League history.
