There were some thrilling games across Europe's top leagues last weekend with some potentially big ramifications.

But who stood out most? It is time to present our Team of the Weekend, in a 4-3-3 formation.

GK: Michele Di Gregorio (Monza)

That Monza kept a clean sheet against Udinese, particularly after the first half bombardment, in their 0-0 draw was single-handedly down to the man between the posts and his saves to keep out Florian Thauvin and Lorenzo Lucca in particular from range were very impressive.

RB: Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen)

Although he operates in more of a wing-back role for Xabi Alonso's high-fliers, he is in a little further back here because there was no way of excluding the former Southampton man. Charged with the unenviable task of filling Jeremie Frimpong's boots, he didn't skip a beat, scoring both goals in the 2-0 win at Darmstadt.

CB: Renato Tapia (Celta Vigo)

The Celta skipper put in a captain's performance as he wore the armband for the first time from a start of a game in their shock 3-0 victory away to Osasuna. All of the dirty work was done by the centre-back and all with a smile on his face too as he relished every successful duel he won. With his contract expiring this summer, they have to get him tied down.

CB: Patrick Mainka (Heidenheim)

The Heidenheim captain has been a revelation at the back, slotting in seamlessly to life in the top flight and is a major reason why they find themselves comfortably clear of the drop zone. Performances like the one he put in against Borussia Dortmund in their 0-0 draw say more than we ever could.

LB: Yuri Berchiche (Athletic Club)

The 33-year-old popped up with two early goals in Athletic's 4-0 win over Mallorca that were as stunning as they were unexpected - twice showcasing his reflexes and instincts to find the net. And how did he celebrate his heroics? By exchanging album stickers with young fans in a city square the following morning. What a man.

CM: Benjamin André (Lille)

The Lille star's fantastic season continued with another all-action showing against Clermont. His side were 4-0 victors and he was everywhere. He won 14 of his 17 duels, claimed 10 interceptions and on the ball, managed a goal for himself too, something he can do more of.

CM: Jorginho (Arsenal)

He's had his critics in north London since his move from Chelsea but when the chips were down in Arsenal's biggest game of the season, the Italy international showed his class. He commanded the midfield effortlessly and was always in the right position both in and out of possession to help his side to a massive 3-1 win over Liverpool which propels them firmly back into title contention.

CM: Ross Barkley (Luton Town)

While England boss Gareth Southgate was in Amsterdam watching Jordan Henderson, his time could have been better spent taking in another fantastic showing from a resurgent Barkley in Luton's breathtaking 4-4 draw at Newcastle, contributing a goal and an assist. It is time for a serious conversation about his Euro 2024 prospects.

RW: Jonathan David (Lille)

He's now surpassed Eden Hazard's Lille goals record and the Canadian keeps on going. He scored twice in their win over Clermont and with just 18 months left on his current deals, they should enjoy him while they can at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy as his tenure there is likely in the final stretch now.

ST: Deniz Undav (Stuttgart)

The Brighton loanee is in the form of his life at the moment. Fresh from his hat-trick in the previous game, there was no let-up against Freiburg, scoring the opener with a vicious finish before assisting the other two goals in a 3-1 victory. A first international cap is surely in the offing.

LW: Matheus Cunha (Wolves)

A Stamford Bridge hat-trick in a 4-2 win saw the Brazilian become just the fourth visiting player in Premier League history to do so. Chelsea had no answer to him as his fine form continued in stunning fashion.
