After another exciting weekend of action across the continent, it is time to put together our best XI from Europe’s top five leagues.

GK: Etrit Berisha (Empoli)

The Empoli shot-stopper was in inspired form, making seven saves as his team pulled off a shock 1-0 win over the Serie A champions Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.

RB: Waldemar Anton (Stuttgart)

Stuttgart have been one of the surprise packages of the Bundesliga so far this season, their 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday has cemented their place in the top four and in Anton they have one of the most proficient ball-playing defenders in the league.

CB: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

The Liverpool captain is producing form that he was capable of before his 2021 injury, he looks back to his best and it has helped his side become the joint-best defence in the Premier League heading into the international break.

CB: Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen)

An integral part of one of the Bundesliga’s meanest defences, Tah also showed what he was capable of down the other end in the 4-0 win over Union Berlin on Sunday with a well-struck half-volley to bag his third goal of the season.

LB: Alex Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen)

It’s a Leverkusen double-whammy to complete the defence with Grimaldo getting into this team for the second week running, but after his goal and assist on Sunday, we couldn’t ignore him.

CM: John McGinn (Aston Villa)

Where has this goal machine come from? The Scottish midfielder added his third of the campaign in the 3-1 win over Fulham before playing a pivotal role in Ollie Watkins’ strike. McGinn has found his shooting boots from somewhere having only scored once in the whole of last season.

CM: Rocco Reitz (Borussia Mönchengladbach)

Reitz is one to keep an eye out for. The 21-year-old bagged the second in Gladbach’s 4-0 victory over Wolfsburg on Friday and is currently on the cusp of breaking into the Germany national squad permanently.

RW: Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich)

Harry Kane scored again this weekend, and Sané assisted him again (twice). The pair have produced 25 goals between them for Bayern so far.

LW: Nicola Sansone (Lecce)

The 32-year-old may have only played for 27 minutes but he more than deserves his place in the team after coming off the bench to score and provide an assist as Lecce came from two goals behind to earn a famous point against Milan.

ST: Rodrygo (Real Madrid)

The Brazilian has taken a little while to get going in 23/24 but he followed up his Champions League in midweek with two goals and two assists for Real on Saturday. An extraordinary display.

ST: Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain)

Real Madrid might not want him anymore (reportedly), but how we can ignore him after that hat-trick against Reims?
