Shocks, stunners and a sprinkling of controversy. Here’s our team of the weekend from Europe’s top five leagues.

GK: Mory Diaw (Clermont Foot)

Diaw made an astonishing 10 saves to keep a clean sheet against PSG on Saturday. There was no way anyone else was getting the gloves this weekend, even though Alisson’s superb performance at Tottenham deserves a mention.

RB: Julian Ryerson (Dortmund)

Ryerson has been consistently solid for Dortmund this season and delivered another fine display when it was backs to the wall at Hoffenheim on Friday, before finally rounding the game off with an 80-yard dribble and calm finish on his 100th Bundesliga appearance. One of the solo goals of the season.

CB: Joseph Okumu (Reims)

The Kenyan was formidable as Reims helped Lyon continue their miserable start to the campaign. No player won more tackles (four), made more clearances (six) or more interceptions (five) than the 26-year-old.

CB: Craig Dawson (Wolves)

Erling Haaland was kept as quiet as we’ve seen him in a Premier League match at Wolves on Saturday, with Dawson delivering a masterclass on how to man-mark the Norwegian out of a game.

LB: Alejandro Grimaldo (Leverkusen)

A second stunning Bundesliga free-kick of the season saw Grimaldo help Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga table. Playing as a left-back and a winger at the same time, the dead ball specialist from Spain is finding life in the Bundesliga to his liking.

RM: Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich)

Bayern’s only real threat in the first half, Sané took the free-kick that won the penalty that got his side back into the game and then scored the equaliser as the team fought back to earn a point at RB Leipzig.

CM: André-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Napoli)

The box-to-box midfielder looks back to his best for Napoli as results are slowly improving. Anguissa offers that balance between defence and attack in midfield for the current Serie A holders and did just that to perfection in the 4-0 defeat of Lecce.

CM: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)

Another fine goal, another breathtaking assist. Jude Bellingham was at it again as Real Madrid swept aside Girona to take their place at the top of the LaLiga table.

LM: Largie Ramazani (Almería)

Ramazani assisted all three goals as Colombian striker Luis Suárez scored a hat-trick for Almería against Granada. A clever through ball, a smart flick and calm cutback, a ball over the top. Three superb moments in one half of football.

ST: Lautaro Martínez (Inter)

Lautaro did not start for Inter at the weekend … and left the pitch with the matchball and change. A superb four-goal display in just 35 minutes was a timely reminder of the Argentine’s ability as he continued a sensational start to the season.

ST: Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Another hat-trick hero, Ollie Watkins was clinical as Villa demolished Brighton to begin the Premier League weekend.
