The season is now under way in the majority of leagues across Europe.

But who impressed most to make into our inaugural Team of the Weekend for the season?

Bernd Leno (Fulham)

A clean sheet to start the season is all any goalkeeper asks for but the manner in which the German did it was very impressive, recording a 3.33 goals prevented at Goodison Park on Saturday, with no Premier League keeper registering more than 2.55 for the entirety of last season.

Rubén Peña (Osasuna)

An explosive performance down the right as he combined seemingly limitless energy with some sublime link-up play to get everyone talking.

Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace)

A rock at the heart of the Palace defence as they started with a narrow win at Sheffield United, his performance typified by an incredible late recovery run and sliding block to save the day.

Jakov Medić (Ajax)

A Player of the Match award and a goal to mark your competitive debut made it a dream start to life in Amsterdam for the summer signing.

Pervis Estupiñan (Brighton)

Tigerish in the tackle, particularly in advanced areas, and seeming more like a forward than a left-back at times, he was also directly involved in both Brighton’s late goals which put the game beyond doubt, deservedly winning the Player of the Match award.

Romain Del Castillo (Brest)

His two penalties were decisive in steering his side to a 3-2 win but it was his all-round play in midfield which caught the attention, spearheading a memorable opening day comeback. He remains one of the league’s most underrated players.

Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)

The Bellingham show has begun in LaLiga. A towering performance in his first game at a difficult venue in Bilbao was capped off with a fine finish for his maiden goal too.

Dani Olmo (RB Lepizig)

His first career hat-trick saw Olmo single handedly sink Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena (becoming the first visiting player to net three there since 2019) and guide his side to the Supercup. His second of the night was a real thing of beauty.

Jérémy Doku (Rennes)

Doku was unplayable in his side’s 5-1 win over Metz, scoring once but terrorising the defence with his constant running and ended the game with an exceptional 100% completion rate for his nine dribbles.

Erling Haaland (Man City)

He’s starting as he means to go on. Two goals and doing what he does best made it just another night at the office for the City superstar.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

A nuisance all afternoon for Villa, typified by his second goal of the game which saw him win possession in the Aston Villa penalty area and produce a cool finish
