Sunderland are reportedly eyeing an audacious move for Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths this summer, according to The Scottish Sun.

Griffiths has been with Celtic since 2014, and has made 262 appearances in total for the Scottish giants, and has more than played his part in some memorable seasons with the Bhoys, having netted 123 goals for them.

But he has found regular game time hard to come by in recent seasons, with the forward being limited to just () appearances in all competitions last term, as they finished second in the top-flight standings.

Sunderland are believed to be offering him a temporary route out of Celtic Park on loan, as they look to find a suitable replacement for Charlie Wyke, who opted to sign for Wigan Athletic ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Black Cats missed out on promotion into the Championship last term, after they were beaten by Lincoln City in their play-off semi-final clash.

We take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser at Sunderland if an agreement to sign Griffiths on loan was finalised this summer.

Winner: Aiden McGeady

McGeady would be the winner if Sunderland struck a deal to sign Griffiths this summer, as it would give him a proven striker to finish off the chances that he creates.

We saw the experienced Irish international thrive alongside Charlie Wyke last season for the Black Cats, and you would expect it to be a similar story this term if they signed Griffiths on a temporary basis.

McGeady chipped in with 17 assists last term, and would fancy his chances of bettering that tally this term, as Lee Johnson’s side target promotion into the Championship once again.

Loser: Benjamin Kimpioka

The 21-year-old would be the loser at the Stadium of Light if they signed Griffiths, as it would push him further down the pecking order in Lee Johnson’s plans with the first-team.

Kimpioka didn’t make a single appearance for Sunderland’s first-team last season, and would have been hoping that he would be given his opportunity to impress heading into the 2021/22 campaign now that Charlie Wyke has departed the club on a permanent basis.

But with Sunderland seemingly holding an interest in Griffiths, this will come as a frustrating update for Kimpioka.
