One winner and one loser at QPR if they manage to sign Wolves player | OneFootball

Queens Park Rangers could be set to make another addition to their team this January, if recent reports are to be believed.

According to the Daily Mail, QPR are in the running for Wolves defender Dion Sanderson.

Mark Warburton’s side face competition from the likes of Bristol City and Birmingham City to secure the signing of the 19-year old. However, the club are keen to secure him on a loan deal to keep him at the club for the remainder of the season.

Sanderson spent the first half of the season on loan with Birmingham, before being recalled by his parent club earlier this month.

Sanderson has appeared 15 times in the Championship so far this season, with 14 starts.

Here, we have decided to take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser at QPR if they strike an agreement with Wolves over Sanderson…

Winner: David Marshall

Marshall himself has only recently joined the Hoops. However, having the extra cover in defence will make his life significantly easier.

Sanderson will offer him greater protection that a makeshift centre back couldn’t. He has enough experience that he should be able to step into the side without any fears of succumbing to the pressure.

That will be much more preferable than a midfielder or a debutant stepping into the role in the event of a crisis.

Sanderson’s style of play should also offer some valuable cover for Marshall. His assurance on the ball can allow QPR to safely play out from the back and avoid any mistakes from opposition pressure.

This will be a relief for Marshall, who could be made to look like a fool if he gets caught out of position from a defensive error under pressure in their own third of the pitch.

Loser: Jimmy Dunne

Dunne has settled into QPR since signing for the club last summer.

But, of QPR’s backline, he is most likely to face immediate competition from Sanderson.

The Irishman has only started 15 of QPR’s 25 Championship fixtures so far this season and is by far the least experienced of the squad’s starting centre backs.

If Sanderson is to come in for genuine playing time then it is likely that Dunne will be chosen to sit out those games in his place.

Yoann Barbet and Robert Dickie have been constants this season for Mark Warburton’s side, and will be more than able teachers for Sanderson, but to bring him into the team must mean someone misses out and Dunne is easily the most likely candidate.
