True False

So what impact could this signing have on the rest of the Sky Blues’ squad if it was to happen?

Here, we’ve taken a look at one winner and one loser among Coventry’s current squad, if they are able to complete a deal for Bird.

Winner: Dom Hyam

One player who could certainly welcome the addition of Bird to ease his workload somewhat, is centre backs Dominic Hyam.

In Bird, Coventry would be getting a strong defensive misfielder, capable of stopping opposition attacks from becoming too dangerous with his tough tackling nature, while his ability when in possession could also help the Sky Blues to control games.

The contribution that Bird could therefore make to shutting down attacks early could therefore help ease the pressure on defenders such as Hyam – who was a regular for Coventry last season – meaning they may well be pleased with this sort of business from the club.

Loser: Josh Eccles

Centre midfielder Eccles has yet to really establish himself as a first-team regular for Coventry, having managed just five Championship appearances for the Sky Blues last season.

The additions of Bird could therefore be a concern for the 22-year-old, since it would give him another more experienced and established Championship midfielder for him to contend with for a place in Mark Robins’ team.

That could potentially push Eccles further down the pecking order at The CBS Arena, which may leave him with a big decision to make over his future, as he reaches the stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular senior football.
