Bolton Wanderers are interested in signing Burton Albion striker Victor Adeboyejo and are preparing to hijack Wigan Athletic’s bid, according to a report from Football Insider.

The 25-year-old seems to have finally got settled in his football career as he has found the net 13 times in 34 appearances for Burton.

This is the strikers best goal scoring return in his football career to date, with his highest return before this season being three at Barnsley.

That form has not gone unnoticed with Adeboyejo reportedly having a buyout clause in his contract that many teams are interested in activating.

According to Football Insider, Wigan are still leading the race the striker and have held talks with Burton over a potential deal.

However, Bolton are now believed to have entered the race as they look to add more options to their depleted attack.

Here at FLW, we have looked at one winner and one loser at Bolton Wanderers should the club seal a move for Adeboyejo this month…

If the Trotters manage to get this deal over the line, then fellow striker Dion Charles would surely be a happy man.

Wanderers have been light at the top end of the pitch in recent weeks, as Dapo Afolayan has left the club to move to St. Pauli, Jon Badi Bodvarsson has been ruled out for the rest of the season, and Amadou Bakayoko has recently departed the club.

Therefore, Charles has been the main man in attack in recent weeks, and that won’t have been easy for the 27-year-old as he’s struggled in front of goal at times this season as well.

However, if Bolton were to bring Adeboyejo in this month, this wouldn’t put Charles under pressure; in fact, it would probably help the former Accrington Stanley man and ease some of the burden that is on his shoulders.

At times this season Ian Evatt has gone with a two-man attack and you would anticipate if the Burton man was to join Wanderers, he could do a similar thing once again and have Charles partner him.

Charles knows what it is like to be in a scoring partnership as he was in one with Cody Bishop at Stanley. So, if Adeboyejo were to join this month, it could be a signing that Charles reaps the benefits from.

Quiz: Can you name which club Bolton Wanderers signed these 22 players from?

Loser: Elias Kachunga

On the other hand, if Adeboyejo were to join, you would assume someone was going to miss out, and that could be Elias Kachunga.

The 30-year-old has appeared on a regular basis for the Trotters this season, with the German playing 25 times in League One. However, 14 of those appearances have been as a substitute, with the attacking coming on for late cameos.

In their last eight league games, Kachunga has failed to start any of them, and in their recent defeat against Shrewsbury Town, the attacker didn’t even make it off the bench.

This is at a time where Bolton’s options in attack are quite limited, so if the Trotters brought in Adeboyejo then that game time for Kachunga could come even more limited. Considering his contract expires at the end of this season, the 30-year-old may find his game time somewhat limited between now and the end of the season.
