Third-placed Arsenal welcome Everton to the Emirates, looking to continue their run of form that has seen them unbeaten in six games since the November international break.
The Gunners had lost steam before the international games, but they are back on track and trying to recover the six-point gap (possibly nine) between them and Liverpool at the summit.
Meanwhile, the Toffees sit in 15th, five points clear of the drop zone. However, they know a result against the Gunners will significantly help their bid to stay afloat this season.
Both teams are coming off morale-boosting victories. The Gunners thumped AS Monaco 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League, and Everton mullered Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0, setting the stage for a mouth-watering clash.
Interestingly, Arsenal have beaten Everton more times than any other team has beaten any other opponent in English football history. The Gunners will look to put the Merseysiders to the sword for the 103rd time today.
Everton’s away record also makes for grim reading as they prepare to take on the title challengers. They have only won one away league match in 2024 (Ipswich Town).
The Toffees might take confidence from winning four of their five Premier League matches against Arsenal between December 2020 and February 2023. However, they lost their last three meetings with Arsenal and have only won once in their previous 28 trips to north London.
Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are out indefinitely. Riccardo Calafiori is on the road to recovery. However, for Gabriel Magalhaes, it is touch and go.
“There is a possibility one of them will be available,” Manager Mikel Arteta said (via the club’s website). “He (Gabriel) trained today, and we will see tomorrow.”
David Raya has been a mainstay between the sticks for the north Londoners. The Spaniard is expected to start.
We will likely see Thomas Partey line-up in the right-back position alongside William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Jakub Kiwior.
Captain Martin Odegaard will hope to open opposition lines while Declan Rice and Mikel Merino provide steel and thrust.
Arsenal have struggled up top, with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli firing blanks. Talismanic winger Bukayo Saka has had to carry most of the attacking threat. The trio will look to cause havoc against Everton.
(4-3‐3): David Raya; Thomas Partey, William Saliba, Jakub Kiwior, Jurrien Timber; Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino; Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard.
