Jurgen Klopp has labelled Danny Ings one of the best strikers in the Premier League at the moment for the way he has kicked on with his career and scored goals since joining Southampton.

Ings spent a loan spell at the Saints before leaving Liverpool permanently for them in 2019 and since then he has found fitness and form.

Indeed, he was a likeable player at Liverpool but struggled with serious injuries and a new start was evidently best for him.

He’ll be looking for a Southampton win this evening, then, and Klopp knows just how good the player is these days.

Quoted by the official Liverpool website, Klopp said in his pre-Southampton notes:

“What a guy and what a player. If Danny does make the [Euro 2021] squad it will be thoroughly deserved. I miss him being with us but I’m really pleased to see him achieve his potential as one of the best forwards in the Premier League.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Klopp is right, Ings has become a top forward in the Premier League and it would be great to see him in the England squad at Euro 2021 later on this summer if at all possible.

He’s a player that we wish had done better at Liverpool but sometimes these fitness problems happen and at least he’s now making the most of his career on the south coast.
