All of Manchester City’s new signings from the January transfer window have made an impact at the club. Omar Marmoush has added goals, intelligence and creativity to City’s play. Abdukodir Khusanov has impressed and looks to be a centre-back that City can depend upon in the future. Vitor Reis was impressed when given the opportunity at the back. Nico has also impressed and he recently spoke to mancity.com about how he’s learning under Pep Guardiola. He impressed against Everton during City’s 2-nil win and it appears that the lessons he’s learning at City training are translating onto the pitch.

In an interview published on Manchester City’s official website before their win over Everton, Nico explained that Pep Guardiola has him viewing football differently. The Spanish midfielder explained: “It’s really nice, I think I’ve learned a lot in the last few months. I think that I am improving a lot and viewing football in a different way, one that I haven’t viewed it from before. He tries to remind me of certain things before every training, it’s so important.

Nico arrived at Manchester City on deadline day of the January transfer window and he was arguably the most important of City’s new signings. Manchester City were screaming out for a midfielder. Since he arrived at the club, Ilkay Gundogan and Mateo Kovacic’s performances have improved. The presence of Nico has allowed them to play further up the pitch. That suits the strengths of their games and is allowing Nico to learn arguably the most difficult role in a Pep Guardiola side.

Nico played well against Everton as the lessons learned from Pep Guardiola are coming through on the pitch.

Nico played well against Everton. He won his duels when required and offered security when in possession. His midfield positioning was also better out of possession and you do feel that is one area of his game that Pep Guardiola has been helping the Spanish midfielder improve. Nico still has areas of his where he can improve. He does dwell on the ball on occasions and he can pick up a yellow card with ease. But you do sense that those areas of his game will improve in time.

Nico has had one outstanding game since he arrived at Manchester City. He put in a dominant midfield performance during City’s 4-nil win over Newcastle. But besides that he was been a steady presence in City’s midfield. That’s what Pep Guardiola’s side was screaming out for. Under Pep Guardiola and with his technical and tactical ability you get the impression that Nico will develop into a fine midfielder for Manchester City. If his performance against Everton can be his benchmark level of performance that will see him become an integral component of Pep Guardiola’s side.
