Only one out of defender Alessandro Bastoni and wingback Robin Gosens is likely to start for Inter in this weekend’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the pair are unlikely to both start down the Nerazzurri’s left as the intention would be to avoid two recent injury returnees going up against La Viola’s Jonathan Ikone.
Both of Bastoni and Gosens are set to be fully fit and available for Saturday’s clash with Fiorentina, as they both made their returns to full training yesterday.
However, there are still naturally some concerns about the fitness of the pair as they will be playing their way to match-sharpness following returns from muscle problems.
According to the Corriere, the Nerazzurri will be particularly wary of the threat posed by 24-year-old French international Ikone down Fiorentina’s right-hand side.
The former Lille winger is one of La Viola’s main danger men in the final third, and formidable in one-on-one situations.
Accordingly, there is some worry that having two players who are still playing their way back from an injury could pose an issue for the Nerazzzurri.
Marking Ikone will be a formidable assignment, and so according to the Corriere the intention of Simone Inzaghi is to try and avoid throwing both Bastoni and Gosens straight into action against the Frenchman.
Meanwhile the Corriere reports, Inter striker Edin Dzeko and wingback Federico Dimarco’s fitness for Saturday’s match remains a doubt.
In both cases, the pair are yet to make their returns to full training.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be waiting to see what the status of the two players, whilst the fitness of Hakan Calhanoglu is also to be revealed.
There is no doubt that Calhanoglu will miss Saturday’s match with injury, but the seriousness of his problem is still yet to be known.
However, it has been reported that tests will be performed today to shed more light.
