It’s going to be a nervy finish to the 2021/22 campaign for AFC Bournemouth, with Nottingham Forest in fine form and aiming to pinch the Championship’s second automatic promotion place off them.

The success of the season will hinge on whether Scott Parker can lead his side back to the Premier League and they’ll want to do all they can to avoid the lottery of the play-offs.

Dom Solanke may feel hard done by to miss out on this gong on the back of what has been a phenomenal season for the striker, who has answered the doubters by showcasing his qualities as a complete forward.

However, it’s hard to look past 22-year-old Jaidon Anthony in what has been a stunning breakthrough campaign for the winger.

Anthony had never started a game for the Cherries before the season opener against West Bromwich Albion but has established himself as a key player under Parker – keeping plenty of impressive and established attackers out of the side.

He’s missed just one Championship game all season – scoring eight times and providing six assists in total in 2021/22 – and looks likely to be a regular fixture should Bournemouth succeed in making it to the Premier League.

Beyond the Vitality Stadium few knew his name heading into the current campaign but he has made himself impossible to ignore over the past eight months.

There was no shortage of Championship interest in Morgan Rogers in the summer window as Manchester City looked to get the 19-year-old more senior experience.

Alongside Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, the winger had turned heads while on loan at Lincoln City last season – scoring six times and providing four assists in 28 appearances as he helped them shock many by reaching the League One play-off final.

and Nottingham Forest were among the second tier clubs linked while top flight Crystal Palace were also touted with an interest but in August, a move to the Cherries was confirmed.

What was supposed to follow was the winger showcasing his exciting talent at Championship level and playing his part in a squad packed with attacking talent.

Unfortunately, things have not gone that way and while the stock of his former Imps teammate Johnson has skyrocketed, Rogers has struggled to make any impact at all.

By January, he’d made 15 appearances for Bournemouth, only starting and only scoring once, and was omitted from their Championship squad for the second half of the season.

His representatives tried to secure a loan move elsewhere but it fell through meaning he was unable to play in the Championship for the Cherries but remained at the club.

Parker confirmed last month that despite the deal running until the end of the season, the 19-year-old has returned to train with Man City – bringing to an end a sorry spell at the Vitality Stadium.

In time, this season may prove a good learning experience for the winger but right now it will be hard to see the positives.
