While he may be on the list of potential candidates to replace Erik ten Hag, there is a major issue that could prevent Manchester United from hiring Eddie Howe as their next manager.

Given Man United’s shambolic start to the season, pressure has been mounting consistently on Ten Hag, with much of the United fanbase growing dissatisfied with the Dutchman at the helm.

As United sits in an embarrassing 14th place in the Premier League, the club appears to be running out of patience with Ten Hag, with reports suggesting that he may be running out of time to convince INEOS that he is indeed up for the task.

In fact, the team’s next two matches could prove vital in Ten Hag’s fight to save his job.

Still, as Ten Hag seems to be edging closer to the exit door, Eddie Howe has been punted as a feasible replacement. Still, there is a major financial issue that could dissuade Sir Jim Ratcliffe from offering the English manager Ten Hag’s job.

“That [Howe’s] contract does not have a set release clause, meaning Man United would have to again negotiate a compensation package with Newcastle,” Football Insider revealed today.

CaughtOffside elaborated on this issue, explaining: “United, should they pursue him, will need to negotiate a compensation package with Newcastle — a nightmare scenario for INEOS, who recently went through a similar experience when hiring sporting director Dan Ashworth.”

What’s more, the article claimed that Newcastle United would likely be unwilling to negotiate Howe’s departure with United, only adding to Ratcliffe’s frustrations.

Despite such setbacks, however, United may still need to seriously consider making a move for Howe, given that their replacement options for Ten Hag appear to be waning.

Just yesterday, Thomas Tuchel reportedly agreed to become the new England manager, thereby ruling him out of the race.

This is a major blow to United, given that Tuchel was allegedly viewed as the top candidate to become United’s next manager.

With other candidates still on the table, such as Ruben Amorim and Edin Terzic, financial terms are likely to play a significant role in determining if Howe could end up at United.
