An insight into the reaction of one key member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona to news of head coach Xavi’s decision to stay put has on Friday been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards Gavi as having been perhaps more excited than any other upon learning of his manager’s call.

Spanish tactician Xavi of course surprised the masses on Thursday, in officially announcing his decision to see out the remaining year on his contract in Catalunya’s capital.

Following a lengthy meeting with Barca president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, the 44-year-old was convinced of the merits of reversing his call to move on upon the close of the campaign.

“I have changed my mind. Rectifying is for wise people. It’s not a matter of money or ego. I saw everyone’s confidence,” he announced.

Such news, it is understood, has since been met with widespread approval on the part of the playing squad in Barcelona, the vast majority of whom threw their full backing behind Xavi even during the season’s most trying moments.

As alluded to above, though, one Blaugrana star was left ‘especially elated’ by confirmation of his manager’s continuity.

As per the aforementioned Sport:

‘Gavi is ‘euphoric’ to still have Xavi. He could not (nor did he want to) repress his joy with the news and, in fact, he expressly let the coach himself know.’

Gavi and Xavi are known to boast a strong personal bond, maintained since the latter’s return to the club late in 2021.

Boss Xavi has proven an important figure throughout his midfield starlet’s long-term injury recovery, with Gavi of the opinion that his decision to remain represents the ‘best possible news’ for the 2024/25 campaign.
