Sparta Prague v Arsenal, October 2005.
Thierry Henry has been one goal shy of Ian Wright’s 185 Arsenal strikes for almost two months. Injuries mean the Frenchman has missed Arsenal’s last seven games since moving to within a goal of the all-time Arsenal goalscoring record.
Then, in the Champions League, he makes history.
First the Frenchman scores one of the greatest goals of his career. Then, after the break, he scores one of the most important, becoming the only Arsenal player to ever score more goals than Ian Wright.
Henry – who will start his managerial career with Monaco on Saturday evening – went on to score a further 42 goals for Arsenal. It seems his record of 228 goals for the north London club may never be beaten.
