On This Day: Savicevic enjoys swansong as AC Milan crush rivals Inter 5-0 – video

Sometimes nostalgia can help football fans through the darkest of times, and that applies perfectly to supporters of AC Milan at the moment.

With that being said, we cast our eyes back 22 years to the 1997-98 season, with the Rossoneri set to ‘host’ their city rivals Inter in a Coppa Italia quarter-final.

The result was a demolition: Fabio Capello’s side – despite a difficult start to the league season – battered the Nerazzuri 5-0 thanks to goals from Dejan Savicevic, Demetrio Albertini (pen), Maurizio Ganz, Steinar Nilsen and Colonnese (OG).

Interestingly, it would be Savicevic’s last ever goal for Milan, who would eventually go on to lose the two-legged final 3-2 on aggregate to Lazio.
