With 140 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo is the all-time record goalscorer in the Champions League.

And it was way back on 10 April 2007 that the Portuguese superstar opened his account in the competition.

Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting CP in the summer of 2003 but it would actually take him almost four years before he scored his first Champions League goal for the club.

It finally came in a 7-1 victory over Roma in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at Old Trafford, with Ronaldo scoring twice on the night.

He scored again in the first leg of the semi-final tie, but Sir Alex Ferguson's side were ultimately eliminated in the second leg by eventual winners AC Milan.

Ronaldo would go on to play 183 times in the Champions League, lifting the trophy once with United and four times with Real Madrid.

And it all began 17 years ago today.
