A home match on the big stage! FC Bayern Women host FC Barcelona at the Allianz Arena on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage on Wednesday evening, 7 December. Kick-off is at 21:00 CET, with the match being streamed live and for free by DAZN along with Web Radio coverage.

The situation

FCB Women occupy second place in the group at the halfway point. After wins over FC Rosengård (2-1) and Benfica (3-2) in their first two outings, the Munich girls suffered a 3-0 defeat against Barcelona at Camp Nou two weeks ago despite a strong first-half performance. The Catalans lead Group D with nine points from three games and a goal difference of 16:1.

But Bayern have been in top form lately, especially at home. They haven’t lost any of their six home games in all competitions this season, with their last defeat on home turf coming back in April 2022, when they were beaten 3-1 by VfL Wolfsburg in the DFB Cup semi-finals.

Alexander Straus’ side also go into this match on the back of a win after triumphing 4-0 away to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the league last Friday.

The quotes

Head coach Alexander Straus: “We’re playing against probably the best team in the world tomorrow. That’s the level we want to get to, though. We know we can hurt Barcelona. We have to take our chances. We’ll have less possession, but when we have the ball we want to hurt them.”

Carolin Simon: “Playing in front of so many spectators at the Allianz Arena is always something special. Of course you’re 100 percent in the zone, but you notice the atmosphere. In a way it’s also a reward for our hard work. We’re looking forward to the game and have big plans.”

The statistics

Wednesday night will be the fifth battle of the FCBs. As well as the reverse fixture two weeks ago, the two teams met in the semi-finals of the 2018/19 Champions League season, when Bayern narrowly lost 1-0 in both legs.

However, the Bavarians have already tasted success against the Spanish champions this year, winning 2-1 at the AMOS Women’s French Cup in Toulouse in August.

The team news

Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir (rehab after muscle injury), Hanna Glas (knee surgery), Giulia Gwinn (cruciate ligament tear) and Jovana Damnjanović (muscle strain) remain on the injury list. Linda Dallmann is also ruled out for this match due to a muscle problem.
