Liverpool manager Matt Beard says that his side are capable of beating any team on their day, although this weekend’s fixture against Manchester City provides a particularly tough challenge.

The high-flying Cityzens are Liverpool’s latest opponents at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Liverpool boss Beard said that his side are capable of beating Manchester City, although it will be a big ask.

“We know that on our day, we can beat anyone,” Beard said. “Manchester City are in good form at the moment, especially in the league, so we know it’ll be a tough game.

“We don’t really fear anyone. The one thing we have spoken about this week is the consistency in what we do.

“We are looking forward to the game, it’ll be a good one for the neutral that’s for sure.”

Last weekend’s goalless draw in the Merseyside derby enabled Liverpool to climb into fourth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Beard believes that his side’s latest ranking is credit for the hard work done on the training ground.

He said “We want to finish as high up the table as we can.

“When we built this squad, we knew that it was a young squad but we have some fantastic experienced players as well that can help these youngsters. We knew we were going to be exciting; have we overachieved? Maybe, but we’ve worked incredibly hard on the training pitch every day.

“Now we are there, we want to stay there, so it’s just about taking it game-by-game.”

Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester City kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
