Manchester City bruised and battered Newcastle United at home in their latest Premier League match by a margin of 4-0.
Omar Marmoush scored a hattrick in the first half to turn the game in City’s favor after the heartbreaking 3-2 defeat that they suffered against Real Madrid in their previous game in the UEFA Champions League. After this win, Pep Guardiola’s side are fourth in the points table with 44 points in 25 matches. They have won 13 matches, drawn five, and lost seven games and are trying to get their form back in the league after a disastrous January.
Let’s take a look at the match ratings of the Manchester City players after this game:
Ederson (7/10):
Ederson was instrumental with his passing in this game and registered his seventh assist for Manchester City.
Rico Lewis (6/10):
Lewis did provide stability when he pushed up in the midfield but also nearly gifted a goal scoring chance to Alexander Isak.
John Stones (8/10):
Arguably one of the best on the pitch, Stones was a rock at the back. His ability to thwart Isak’s advances was commendable, and his composure on the ball was a significant asset, contributing to City’s control over the game.
Abdukodir Khusanov (7/10):
The player from Uzbekistan had a much more assured performance this time around. After a shaky start in his previous game, he managed to keep both Isak and Gordon in check, offering a calming presence in defense.
Josko Gvardiol (6/10):
The Croatian defender had moments of brilliance, including a key pass that set up a chance for Haaland. However, his occasional lapse in concentration, like the risky pass to Isak, showed there’s room for improvement in his defensive awareness.
Nico Gonzalez (8/10):
Gonzalez was the glue in midfield; his passes were both defence-splitting and effective, ensuring City’s dominance in the centre of the park.
Ilkay Gundogan (7/10):
Despite the challenge posed by Newcastle’s midfield duo, Gundogan was up to the task. His vision was instrumental in setting up the second goal. He demonstrated his experience and class his class in tight situations.
Phil Foden (6/10):
While not at his most influential, Foden had moments where he tried to make things happen. However, he was somewhat overshadowed by the performances of his teammates.
Savinho (8/10):
The Brazilian was electric, particularly in his interplay with Hall. His pace and skill were on full display, directly contributing to two goals with his incisive runs and intelligent presence on the field.
Erling Haaland (7/10):
Although not his usual goal-scoring self, Haaland’s movement off the ball was crucial. He created space for others, notably assisting McAtee’s goal with a clever header, though his game was cut short by a knee concern.
Omar Marmoush (10/10):
