Summer signing Omar Alderete was delighted to score as Valencia defeated Cartagena 3-2 in their latest preseason friendly.

The Paraguay defender is on-loan from Hertha Berlin for the season.

"These games are for trying out what we've been doing in training and what the coach wants," he told the club's website.

"In the first half we struggled a little, and were slow in bringing the ball out and getting into possession. We corrected that in the second half and had a better game. Every game is useful for getting on the pace. Winning is also important, for our confidence."

Alderete added: "As I've said before, my teammates have welcomed me very well. They are all good people and that also helps you to adapt quickly to how they play on the pitch -and how they are off it, which is also important.

"Last week we were training very hard. Now we will see what the coach wants, and what he wants us to work on for the upcoming friendlies."
