It’s the same preparation for league and cup. We have two finals to play against Lazio. They are direct clashes and we have great motivation.  The results didn’t come in the first two games but our goal is to qualify as first in the group, despite the fact that the situation isn’t the best.

The Olympique Marseille coach spoke about the strengths of forward players Dimitri Payet and Arkadiusz Milik.

The presence of Milik and Payet is important. Having them available in this scenario is fundamental for important matches like the one against Lazio.  It is important to be able to rely on players like them.

Sampaoli discussed how both Lazio and Marseille play an offensive style and the strengths of the Biancocelesti.

Both Sarri and I play offensive games. The key will be in who can hold the game in their hands. We will need to be able to attack well but in tight blocks because Lazio are strong. Lazio score a lot, it will be important to concede little and not make mistakes. We’re here to win and to qualify. Lazio are very prepared, it will be a high level match.

He confirmed that he wasn’t distracted by the upcoming derby against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

I’m not thinking about PSG. Tomorrow will be very difficult as it was to qualify.  I’m concentrating on the match against Lazio especially on communicating with my players.

Finally, Sampaoli touched on which players he is thinking about starting against Lazio.

I will try to put the best players and who are better to be able to qualify.  I still don’t have a clear lineup.

Sampaoli’s Marseille currently sit third in the Ligue 1 table after nine games, with 17 points. A win in their game in hand would see them rise to second, above RC Lens.

The upcoming match against PSG is one of the most hotly contested and tense derbies in French football.
