An absolutely remarkable situation has taken place in Saint-Étienne after the end of Argentina’s draw with Morocco in their Olympic opener.

The South American side netted a 105th minute equaliser to draw 2-2 with Morocco but that controversial equaliser has caused chaos.

The goal was given in real time by the referee but Morocco have complained that it should have been chalked off for offside.

Morocco, at the time, then left the pitch before the match could formally end, meaning that the fixture was technically suspended by the referee.

Now the International Olympic Committee are asking the two teams to go back on to the field of play – nearly 90 minutes after the game initially ended – to carry on with the final few moments of the match.

The teams and the referee came back on the pitch and confirmed that Facundo Medina’s goal was offside.

The match then continued for those last three minutes, which confirmed a 2-1 win for Morocco.
