FC Barcelona win in dominant fashion against Real Sociedad at the Montjuic Stadium. Unlike last time around when these two sides met, the Catalan giants were simply too much to handle for the opposition. With this win, Barcelona now return to the top of the La Liga table.

An early red card for Real Sociedad defender Aritz Elustondo led to a compelling 4-0 win for La Blaugrana that saw several Barça players get on the scoresheet. The likes of Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Ronald Araujo, and Robert Lewandowski all added in goals of their own. With such a positive day in terms of scoring, the team’s goal difference also gets a boost.

Here are the player ratings for Hansi Flick’s players from this game.

Player Ratings:

Wojciech Szczesny: 6.5

Quite the quiet game for the Polish goalkeeper, as Real Sociedad registered a total of 0 shots all game. The veteran was accurate with his passing, however, and that was basically all he needed to do.

Jules Kounde: 7.0

The Frenchman had a solid outing, and he did his job well. Defended when he had to, and linked up well with Lamine Yamal to give him an extra outlet whenever the young winger would have needed one.

Ronald Araujo: 9.0

Alongside a younger Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo’s performance was one that was undoubtedly commanding. Beyond just his defensive presence, he also managed to score a goal and also assisted Robert Lewandowski as well, albeit not exactly intentionally.

Pau Cubarsi: 7.5

A mature performance from the Spanish defender, Pau Cubarsi was always in control of the situation. While the early red card certainly killed off any offensive hopes that Real Sociedad initially had, the defender’s own performance was solid from start to finish.

Gerard Martin: 8.0

In surprising fashion, Gerard Martin was the player to open the scoring for Barcelona in this game. Even apart from that, however, the Spaniard had a solid outing and completely nullified Real Sociedad whenever they tried to attack his flank.

Marc Casado: 8.0

Yet another surprising goalscorer in this game, Marc Casado’s addition to the scoresheet arrived in rather unlikely fashion as Dani Olmo’s shot deflected off of him and into the goal. However, his intensity and tenacity was simply undeniable and helped limit any progression that the opposition made.

Pedri: 8.5

Yet another masterful display from Pedri, the Spaniard was always in control of proceedings. He created chances, retained possession well, and was eager to try for some shots himself as well. Even received a standing ovation as he came off the pitch.

Lamine Yamal: 8.0

Slippery and tricky to stop, Lamine Yamal was yet again leaving his mark all over the game. It was thanks to his brilliance that Barcelona ended up opening the scoring in the first place, and he was quite unlucky not to get an assist considering the kind of opportunities he created.

Dani Olmo: 9.5

Undoubtedly the star of the show for Barcelona today, the Spaniard was at his scintillating best. Sharp and quick whenever he got the ball, the midfielder created a lot of dangerous opportunities as he grabbed two assists. He was also vital in getting a Real Sociedad player sent off thanks to his clever play.

Raphinha: 7.5

Continued to influence the game in one way or another whether he was on the ball or away from it. His corner deliveries, yet again, ended up giving Barcelona an edge when they needed it and his work-rate was also commendable.

Robert Lewandowski: 6.5

A completely sluggish performance that saw the Polish striker waste several decent chances. Moreover, he also complicated certain plays that could have been much more beneficial for his Barcelona teammates. However, he did manage to improve slightly in the second half and managed to grab a goal.

Substitutes:

Ferran Torres: 6.5

Eager to score and got into some really good positions. Made life difficult for the opposition.

Frenkie de Jong: 7.0

Lively and always looking to progress the ball, Frenkie de Jong’s arrival into the game was a welcome one. The Dutchman managed to contribute to the game in a positive way.

Eric Garcia: 6.0

Maintained his composure and did well once he came on for Pau Cubarsi.

Fermin Lopez: 6.0

Intense and did well to connect play near the opposition box.

Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
