Ollie Watkins is taking to European football like a duck to water.
The Aston Villa striker is getting his first taste of continental competition tonight against Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in the Europa Conference League playoff.
And he’s running riot.
The 27-year-old bagged a hat-trick inside just 47 minutes in Edinburgh as Unai Emery’s side took control of their qualifier.
His first came courtesy of a glancing header via a Lucas Digne cross in the 17th minute before he found himself free to nod home Diego Carlos’ flick-on after a Digne corner.
Watkins completed his hat-trick with a first-time finish from eight yards out after another Digne cross at the start of the second half.
If he is starting the season in this form, could Watkins add to his seven England caps ahead of Euro 2024 next summer?
