While Olivier Giroud prepares to lead France into Russia for the World Cup, he took the time to explain why he opted to reject Borussia Dortmund in favor of a move to his London rivals.
“BVB wanted to loan me for six months, but I did not want that because my contract with Arsenal lasted only until the summer, so I would have delayed the decision on my future,” Giroud told Sky.
Giroud ultimately signed a contract until the summer of 2019. “That was just more attractive for me and my family, so we could stay in London,” he said.
The 31-year-old scored five goals in 18 games so far for Chelsea and has assisted on three others.
Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Arsenal in a €70m move, while Dortmund picked up Michy Batshuayi on loan from Chelsea, where the Belgian enjoyed massive success.
