Olivier Giroud has become France’s oldest starting outfield player at the age of 36 years and 178 days.
Didier Deschamps included the AC Milan striker in his line-up as the two-time world champions faced the Republic of Ireland in Monday’s Euro 2024 qualifying Group B encounter.
Giroud received his first Les Bleus call-up in November 2011 and made his international bow during a friendly with the United States later that month.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea marksman has since made a total of 122 appearances for France and was involved in their previous two World Cup campaigns, winning the final in 2018 and losing last year’s showpiece to Argentina.
Giroud was also involved for Deschamps’ side as they missed out on homeland glory at Euro 2016 at the hands of Portugal.
