Oliver Kahn has given an insight into exactly why Bayern Munich gave a contract extension to Hansi Flick at the end of April.
Flick was hired on a temporary basis to replace Niko Kovač back in October but has blown expectations completely out of the water in his first eight months.
The Bavarian side are seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and go into the second leg of their last 16 Champions League clash against Chelsea with a 3-0 lead.
Flick was handed a deal on April 30 that will see him stay until at least 2023 and Kahn, who is on the club’s board of directors, has revealed why they decided to act so swiftly.
“We intensively analysed how he is developing the team, how he is bringing individual players forward, and how he is getting the best out of all our top players at Bayern,” the former goalkeeper told Bild.
“You can see from our results that the contract extension was the right thing to do.”
Kahn, according to Sport Bild, is also working to extend the deals of Thiago Alcântara and Alphonso Davies, having already secured the signatures of Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller since the Bundesliga’s return.
