Crystal Palace are committed to making two permanent signings this month, manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed.

The Eagles are in the market for players in two different positions and have already identified their primary targets.

Last January, Palace were the highest spenders in the Premier League, with the signings of Adam Wharton and Daniel Munoz costing a total of around £30million.

They are again planning for incomings in the January window, with left wing-back the key position they have identified as in need of strengthening. Tyrick Mitchell is the club’s only left-sided full-back.

Asked on Friday whether this was the priority position, Glasner replied: “It’s clear, and we have a commitment that we want to sign two players — two different positions. The profiles are clear. Players are fixed. Now we just have to get the deals done.

“This is the job of the club, and I know they are hard-working for it. It [would be] better to get them yesterday than tomorrow, but I also know that we are not the only ones who decide it.

“We have a clear commitment that we will sign two new players.”

Glasner sidestepped questions on reports of interest in Slavia Prague’s 20-year-old left wing-back El Hadji Malick Diouf.

Meanwhile, Palace will be without midfielder Will Hughes when they host Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Saturday, due to injury. Glasner revealed there is real confidence that the 29-year-old — out of contract in the summer — will sign on for another year.

“Will Hughes is not available,” he said. “He got injured in the Southampton game. Afterwards, he had to be stitched on the top of his foot. It’s just too swollen and too painful, so he can’t wear a boot.

“I don’t want to talk about details, but I am very confident and convinced that he will play at least next year for Crystal Palace.”

Glasner confirmed that Adam Wharton’s recovery from groin surgery is taking “longer and longer”, and that Jefferson Lerma is due to start alongside Cheick Doucoure as the two central midfielders.
