Marcin Oleksy of Warta Poznań’s amputee football team has won the 2022 FIFA Puskas Award. His bicycle kick against Stal Rzeszów was voted as the best goal in world football during the calendar year, beating a whole host of world stars.
At FIFA’s Football Awards in Paris, 35-year-old Oleksy was voted ahead of goals by Dimitri Payet and Richarlison to become the first amputee player to claim the award. He was handed his prize by former Italy and Juventus star Allesandro del Piero.
Oleksy lost the lower part of his left leg aged just 23, in a construction accident. Having previously played as a goalkeeper, when Oleksy returned to the pitch after his accident, he did so as an attacker.
