Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, on paper, has a net worth of around £2million. It represents a significant hit on a person who was valued to be around £10million back in 2010.

Solskjaer signed a new three-year deal recently at Manchester United and will take home £200,000 per week in wages. This amounts to a whopping £10m annually. He is the league’s third highest-paid manager, lagging behind the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Playing Career (Club)

Nicknamed the smiling assassin, Solskjaer had a perchance for scoring important goals. He made his debut for Clausenengen in 1990 as a 17-year-old. He spent four years with the club before moving to Molde in 1994.

He eventually moved to United in 1996 and has since been synonymous with the club’s fortunes. Solskjaer famously scored the winner in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final, immortalizing himself in United folklore.

He earned himself a reputation for scoring as a substitute and was a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s all-conquering sides. The Norwegian made 365 appearances across all competitions, scoring 126 goals and making 59 assists.

He spent 11 years at Old Trafford before hanging up his boots in 2007. While his stint as a player may have come to an end, one journey’s end was just another’s beginning.

Solskjaer made his international debut in a friendly against Jamaica on 26 November 1995. He has since made 67 appearances for his nation, scoring 23 goals. The baby faced assassin formed a solid strike partnership with Tore Andre Flo and represented his nation at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 European Championship.

Never a top side, Solskjaer had a really low chance of winning any silverware at the international level. He played his final match for Norway in 2007 against Croatia.

Solskjaer took his first steps into management even before he hung up his boots. Following his retirement, he worked for Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, coaching the strikers on the first team for the remainder of the 2007/08 campaign.

He took over as the reserve team manager in the summer of 2008. He led the team to the Lancashire Cup and also defeated Bolton Wanderers for the Manchester Senior Cup. During this time he was offered the chance to replace Age Hareide as Norway’s national team manager. He, however, declined, commenting that it was too early for him to make the step.

Solskjaer eventually left his role as reserve team boss at Old Trafford in 2011 to take over the Norwegian side, Molde. He showed much promise as a coach and was touted to replace Alex McLeish as the Aston Villa manager, a role he refused.

The United legend enjoyed some success in his homeland, leading Molde to the Tippeligaen and the Norwegian Football Cup. He then moved to the English Premier League, taking over a struggling Cardiff City side in 2014.

Solskjaer’s time at the Welsh side was in short a disaster. Not only could he not save them from the drop but also struggled to get them going in the Championship the next season. He eventually left the club after just seven months at the helm to return to Molde.

His second coming failed to land the club any trophies. They finished runners up on multiple occasions but were unable to overcome Rosenborg to win the league. Eventually United came calling and Solskjaer took over as caretaker manager at Old Trafford in December 2018.

He won 14 of his first 19 games in charge, earning himself a three-year deal as the permanent manager. Solskjaer has since taken United to multiple semifinals and a Europa League final. He is, however, yet to win a single major honour as Manchester United manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was born in Kristiansund, Møre og Romsdal to Oyvind, a Greco-Roman wrestling champion, and Brita Solskjaer. After initially dabbling with wrestling, the 48-year-old decided to choose football as his career path.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is married to Silje Solskjaer and has three kids namely Noah, Karna and Elijah. Noah is a midfielder for Kristiansund BK and made his debut against Solskjaer’s Red Devils in 2019. Karna meanwhile is a member of the United Womens’ academy side.

Solskjaer was awarded the First Class Knighthood of the Royal Norwegian Order of St Olav by King Harald V of Norway. As things stand Solskjaer is the youngest recipient of the honour to this date.

The Norwegian parliament also bestowed upon Solskjaer its annual Peer Gynt Prize for his work as an ambassador of the sport and for his social commitment.
