Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that OH Leuven defender Hamza Mendyl is hoping that a move to Turkey will materialise. The 26-year-old Moroccan defender had been talking to Adana Demirspor, but nothing has been agreed as of yet. The Turkish window closes tonight, so time is running out for Mendyl.
As it stands, his current club’s head coach Oscar Garcia will not pick Mendyl because he is not focused on helping OH Leuven avoid relegation. Whether or not he can force his way back into the side should a transfer fail to materialise remains to be seen. So far this season, the defender has played 17 times, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the Pro League. Remarkably, even though two of those goals came in the same game, he is one of the sides top scorers so far this season.
The former Schalke 04 defender already has experience of playing in Turkey, having spent the 2021/2022 season on loan at Gaziantep FK. He played 23 games and scored once for the side.
OH Leuven currently sit just outside the relegation zone after two important back to back wins over Genk and Westerlo. This weekend they face another huge relegation six pointer away to Standard Liege.
