OH Leuven hoping to sign DR Congo international from Standard Liege | OneFootball

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that OH Leuven are looking to take advantage of the situation at Standard Liege by offering a contract to midfielder William Balikwisha. According to Tavolieri, the fee is set to be under €1m, which is certainly less than what the midfielder is worth. While this is certainly a good signing for OH Leuven, it does raise questions about the balance of their squad in adding another central midfielder to a squad that has already got adequate strength and depth in that position.

Balikwisha, who is a full DR Congo international, had his breakout season under Rony Deila during the 2022/2023 season. He was the driving force behind the sides success that season, grabbing six goals and five assists in 36 games. Last season he lost his starting place in the team, playing just 28 games with many of his appearances coming off the bench. For a player who has just turned 25, clearly finding somewhere to get regular games is important. He also only has one year left on his current contract and there had been talks of him following in his brothers footsteps by trying to force his way out of the club.
