Oh là là – Neil Lennon and the managerial vacancy at Marseille

What with Ronny Deila’s controversial move to Club Brugge from Standard de Liège, Ange Postecoglou upping sticks immediately after the Scottish Cup final to take the Tottenham job and Brendan Rodgers about to be re-appointed to the Celtic job to replace the Australian, it’s been a busy few weeks for the recent crop of Celtic managers.

The other one in that bunch of trophy winning bosses is of course Neil Lennon who has been out of work in football management at least since being harshly sacked by Omonia Nicosia despite achieving notable results in European football and winning the Cyprus Cup Final for the club.

Now though Neil Lennon’s name has popped up in relation to the vacancy at French Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille, after Igor Tudor stepped down earlier this month after an eventful season in charge.

Announcing his resignation Tudor said: “It was an honour to work for the club, for this family with supporters of the kind you so rarely find. On a personal level, I have grown. I leave the club in a better position than thee one I found it in,” Get Football News France reported.

The 45-year-old Croatian manager cited “private and professional reasons” for his decision and stated that he gave his absolute all to Marseille, highlighting the many sleepless nights he had this season. And he was full of praise for Ligue 1. “I thoroughly appreciated France, the supporters and the good wine. The French league is good, with a good pace.” Tudor said as he headed for the revolving managerial door with Neil Lennon hoping he’s on the other side.

“Neil Lennon was offered to #OM earlier this month for the coaching job. Free since leaving Omonia Nicosia, the 52-year-old Northern Irish technician, legend of Celtic Glasgow, would not say no to a new challenge in #Ligue1,” French journalist Patrick Juillard reports.

Marseille would certainly be a prestigious gig for Neil Lennon and if he could get chance he might just surprise a few people. We certainly wish him all the best as he tries to get back into management.
