OGC Nice ended their UEFA Europa League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night. Having failed to pick up a single win during the campaign, they have been eliminated from the competition and made some unwanted history in the process.
Nice finished 35th with only Qarabag finishing below the Ligue 1 side on goal difference; Franck Haise’s side picked up a mere three points during their eight matches. Le Gym have become the first French club to have never led a single minute in a single Europa League group/ league phase game in history.
“We are disappointed, disappointed to have never led in the competition because it is the reality,” said Haise in the post-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News. “We haven’t been up to it for the whole competition,” he added, going on to point out the injury crisis that has prevented the Côte d’Azur club from competing on multiple fronts.
Despite their difficulties in Europe, Nice have been in strong form in Ligue 1, which gives them hope of qualifying for the competition, or even the UEFA Champions League, for next season.
